Who Are We?
Rebel Arts was created to provide a place of belonging
for underserved communities while enhancing their
physical and mental health. Through circus arts, we
empower our communities to be bold & authentic with
who they are. Our programs provide a sense of
acceptance as we cater our instruction to each individual
need. We accept students of all learning styles and
disabilities. With our movement classes, we help build
confidence, resilience, leadership, and self-awareness to
help our Rebels succeed in the future.
Alyssa Bigbee founded Rebel Arts in the year of 2020,
making the decision to launch programming in Kensington,
Philadelphia. As someone who attended Conwell Middle
Magnet School, Alyssa knew the potential and talent that
resided amongst residents. Located near Kensington &
Allegheny, Alyssa attended the school with a mixture of
kids in the city as well as the neighborhood and grew to
love the area before its decline in safety & opportunity.
Rebel Arts began with affordable classes offering tumbling,
gymnastics, and movement.
In the year of 2022, Rebel Arts expanded their offerings to
include circus arts after Alyssa became trained in Aerial
Bungee, Aerial Silks, and Lyra. Having dreamed of getting
involved with circus, Alyssa became passionate about
removing barriers to circus through the creation of
scholarship programs and partnerships. Now as one of the
Co-Founders & Co-Host of National Black Circus Week,
she aims to make Circus & Gymnastics more inclusive!

Rebel Arts founded The Rebellion Circus in 2023
making its debut in the Cannonball & Philadelphia
Fringe Festival. Their first production “The Rebellion:
Modern Warfare” highlighted the social issues that
impacted the Black community. Receiving great reviews
for it’s in depth story and launching a category of social
circus. Their next production “Finding Joy” would
transport audiences to a world where joy was imminent
for Black & Queer people. The Rebellion Circus is made
up of Rebel Arts students who took aerial classes and
dreamed of taking their professional experience to new
heights. For more info on The Rebellion Circus, click

Partnerships
One of our core values at Rebel Arts Movement is
“Community”. We understand that we could not be here
without our community of families and residents in the area
of Kensington. It is why we have devoted our time and space
to hosting community events and traveling around the
neighborhood to support other community events.
Annual Halloween Party
Since our opening in 2020, we’ve provided youth a safe place
to play while trick or treating. Families are able to come to
our studio for free and hang out while kids play on our
spooky tumbling course and hang out on our terrifying aerial
slings. Lunch is provided along with sweet treats to send kids
off on a happy day.
